Hankook Optimo H727 All-Season Tire - 215/70R15 97T Review
I have used a set(4) of these tires for almost 2 years -- mounted on a 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis with some suspension and brake system modifications to allow for high-speed freeway driving, mountain touring, and grocery-grabbing, as well.
During that time, the tires performed excellently -- in pouring rain, light snow, black ice, and hot, dry asphalt and/or concrete. Tracking is straight and smooth, with sure footing when changing lanes across seams in the roadway.
The many sipes in the tread give extra bite in the rain and/or on ice. The ride is smooth on pavement or dirt roads, and the Hankooks are very quiet on all types of road surfaces. The tread compound and tire construction make the Hankook H727s a low-rolling-resistance tire, which helps fuel mileage. Dry AND wet braking give straight, quick, smooth stops.
The steel-belted radial design of the H727 carries a 97T (118 mph) Speed Rating -- and the water-shedding tread resists dangerous aquaplaning in heavy rain.
The tires have not worn much in the 2 years we've had them on -- and it looks like they will last a few years more.
Word to the Wise: When having ALL 4 of your wheels balanced, call ahead and specify that you want SPIN balancing and LOW-PROFILE weights (aka. "TAPE WEIGHTS"). The "Tape Weights" were developed for use with disc brakes and modern alloy wheels -- they fit on the inside of the wheel, where they can't be seen, and where they CAN'T get knocked off. And the "Low Profile" means they give plenty of clearance for those big brake discs.
If they tell ya they don't have the "tape Weights" -- hang up and call somewhere that DOES !! Those old-timey lead weights that go on your tires get knocked off and/or moved -- so your tires go "out of balance" prematurely, which increases wear and reduces safety. Your expensive tires are almost guaranteed to last longer with the "Tape Weights".
I will definitely buy another set of Hankook H727s whenever these finally wear out.
Highly recommended for performance, safety, and value !!
