Saddlemen Saddlebag Lid Covers with Storage Bags 3501-0454 Review

This is a pretty nice item... well made, very functional, and (even without the luggage) looks damn nice on the bike. However, this item is utterly useless if it doesn't *stay on the bike*, and that's where the problem came in. The adhesive Velcro strips that attach the lid cover (which is what the storage bags attach to) to the lid are crap. I followed the instructions exactly, but the adhesive strips are constantly peeling off. In fact, on the *most important* adhesive Velcro strip (the front strip), the Velcro strip came off but the adhesive itself stayed on! (Yes, the Velcro strip and the adhesive on the Velcro strip separated into 2 pieces!) This is the strip that secures the front of the storage bag to the saddlebag lid. I peeled off all the supplied Velcro strips, re-cleaned the inside of the lid, and installed Velcro Industrial Strength Sticky-Back Hook & Loop Fasteners, Black, 2inX15 Foot Roll (VEK90197). This stuff is awesome, it sticks, and it keeps the lid covers firmly in place. I think this is an issue with the entire Saddlemen line, as I have the exact same problem with the Saddlemen Saddlebag Lid Organizer Set - Black. The Saddlemen products are generally well made; but the little details, like good quality Velco, really make a difference. As this, this product deserves 3.5 stars. If the Velcro had done it's job, it would have earned 4.5 stars.
