Product Description

DUAL 6-OHM CONFIGURATION: Accommodating the rising trend of triple-subwoofer applications, Audiobahn's Sound Q subwoofers come in dual 6-ohm configurations. This allows three Sound Q subwoofers to be wired in a 1- or 4-ohm operation. You now have the option to use a wider range of amplifiers to fit the needs of your specific application. SURROUND: To lengthen the life of the woofer and to ensure continued enjoyment, this series' surround is made from EPDM rubber, a denser yet flexible material that is designed to hold its shape over time. It is made to withstand weather conditions such as high and low temperatures. MULTI-CONNECT LUG LOCK TERMINALS: Audiobahn's patented Multi-Connect Lug Lock Terminals offer increased versatility in wiring multiple subwoofers to an amplifier or to another voice coil. Multi-connect terminals allow you to use single wire connections in each terminal rather than combining multiple wires into one terminal. This feature allows you to use a full 8-gauge wire in each terminal.

Audiobahn 10-Inch 1000 Watts Car Audio Subwoofer (ALUM10J) Review

I bought these subs a couple months ago because my brother had a pair and I thought they sounded pretty good. While they aren't the best subs in the world, they are much better than people give Audiobahn credit for. Granted I did get them for about $60 each, so they were pretty much a steal. I plan to upgrade eventually, but I'm in no rush to do so.

If you're going to get these subs, realize that they have dual 6ohm voice coils. Audiobahn's website has some conflicting information about this; however, all of the ALUM series subs have this configuration. This being the case, if you want to run them at 1ohm, you'll need to pick up three, which is exactly what I did.

Currently mine are being driven by a 1200w Audiobahn amp. Thus they get about 400w each. They are in a sealed box with each chamber being about .75cu feet. In this configuration they are quite commanding. Let me try to explain what I mean by this. The other day I was riding with a friend who has two of the older 12in alpine type r's in a pretty big ported box getting 600w each. His system gets pretty dang loud, but not really a good loud. In my car, the perceived volume is about the same, however it FEELS much better. The bass sounds much cleaner, and not nearly as hollow. Not to mention everything shakes a good amount more. The Audiobahn's are clearly superior in this configuration.

Sadly, this is about where the good ends. Having heard so many negative reviews about Audiobahns blowing up, I can only assume that these subs would fall apart if given their RMS rating of 800w. I can see them doing 600-700, but only if they're in a small box--say .5 cu feet (sealed). Hopefully I'm wrong about this, but it's not really a deal breaker anyway. They're still awesome subs, they're just a bit over-rated when it comes to power handling. Keep this in mind and you'll love them.

Would I buy these subs again? Well not if I had the money to get something better. While I understand that bass only sounds good in moderation, I like to be able to turn things up if only to show off. In the future I'm hoping to get 4 of the RE SSX's (10's probably), not because I want my music louder for normal listening. These AlUMS are more than adequate for that. They're just not quite enough to make it hard to breathe.
